A doula is different things to different women. To learn more about our philosophy and services, see the information below. To learn more about how doulas are supporting women and changing birth outcomes for the better, read our blog: Mommas Matter.
Philosophy
Breath + Broth was created to support and nourish women during one of life's most momentous and miraculous experiences: birth. Our doula services are designed to support women along their journeys into motherhood. From fertility to pregnancy to labor and birth to postpartum, our goal is to stand with women -- free from judgement, full of love, and rooted in experience.
We live in a country rich with resource, technology, and science, but often short on touch, intimacy, and emotion. Birth in America is no exception, with far too many women feeling disconnected, marginalized, or disappointed with their birth choices, support, and outcomes. All Doulas working with Breath + Broth are committed to curating experiences for women that celebrate their strength, respond to their needs, and support their decisions. With love, acceptance, and joy we are honored to be with you in these moments.
“Birth is not only about making babies.
Birth is about making mothers: strong, competent, capable mothers, who trust themselves and believe in their inner strength.”
services
- Fertility Support: Infertility is all too common for women today. It can be an emotionally and physically grueling process. Doulas can provide resources, empathy, and physical support as needed through fertility struggles and treatments.
- Antepartum Support: Preparing for the birth of your baby can come with countless questions, anxieties, and emotions. Through prenatal visits a Doula can help by providing information and references, developing a birth and/or postpartum care plan, and emotional support.
- Labor and Birth Support: Serving the mother in this sacred and special time regardless of setting or choices is core to our work as Doulas. We provide continuous labor support on physical, emotional, and psychological levels. We are not medical professionals and do not provide care or discuss care decisions on your behalf. The Doula's role is never to get between the mother and her partner, but rather to have a hand on both of your backs, guiding you, validating your experience, and celebrating your journey.
- Postpartum Support: Companionship, education, guidance, and encouragement are in full supply with postpartum doula support. Whether helping with infant care, sitting with mom, supporting breastfeeding, celebrating successes, processing experiences, cooking a nourishing meal, or assisting with household tasks, a postpartum Doula is there to provide support in many forms.
